Data Visualization Best-Practices For Comparison Bar Split

This data visualization is fantastic when you have to compare the performance of two items. In this example, we are comparing two countries, but the idea is to be able to compare everything by everything.

Data visualization best-practices

  • Allow the user to select which portion of data to be assign to Group 1
  • Allow the user to select which portion of data to be assign to Group 2
  • Display bar chart
    • Display horizontal bar for each item showing the KPI value for Group 1, and a second bar for Group 2
    • Display the values next to the bar
    • Sort by value descending
  • Allow the user to dynamically select the KPI he wants to analyze (for instance moving from a Revenue analysis to a Gross Margin analysis)
  • Allow the user to select the analytical axis by which he wants to split the performance
