Data Visualization Best-Practices For Comparison Table Split

This data visualization is fantastic when you have to compare the detailed performance of two items. In this example, we are comparing two countries, but the idea is to be able to compare everything by everything.

Data visualization best-practices

  • Allow the user to select which portion of data to be assign to Group 1
  • Allow the user to select which portion of data to be assign to Group 2
  • Display a table
    • Show the Item Name
    • For Group 1
      • Show the KPI value
      • Show the rank of the item in the list
      • Show the share of the item compared to the overall total of Group 1
      • Show the cumulative share of the item compared to the overall total of Group 1
    • Idem for Group 2
    • Show the variance and variance in % between KPI value for Group 1 and Group 2
    • Use color coding to highlight the variance result
  • Allow the user to dynamically select the KPI he wants to analyze (for instance moving from a Revenue analysis to a Gross Margin analysis)
  • Allow the user to select the analytical axis by which he wants to split the performance
