Data Visualization Best-Practices For Comparison Trends

This data visualization is great when you have to compare the detailed performance evolution of two items. In this example, we are comparing two countries, but the idea is to be able to compare everything by everything.

Data visualization best-practices

  • Allow the user to select which portion of data to be assign to Group 1
  • Allow the user to select which portion of data to be assign to Group 2
  • Display a bar chart
    • For each period, display 2 bar illustrating KPI value for Group 1 and Group 2
    • Display the KPI values within the bars
  • Allow the user to dynamically select the KPI he wants to analyze (for instance moving from a Revenue analysis to a Gross Margin analysis)
  • Allow the user to select the analytical axis by which he wants to split the performance
  • Allow the user to select the periodicity of the chart: Year, Semester, Quarter, Month, Week, Date
